This week in music, we continued the marathon of individual assessments, along with our Mary Poppins sing-a-long.
Thank you to everyone who came to see the music room on Curriculum Night! It was great to see so many people excited about music this year. If you were not able to make it to Curriculum Night, or you still have questions about music, please feel free to e-mail Ms. Katie at school.
Next week, Choir starts! Choir this year will be only from October through December, and other ensembles will happen later in the year. If your child is interested in joining choir, please return the letter that was sent home on Wednesday (if you need an extra, more are available at the front of the school, with PTSA handouts and other communications). Choir will be on Wednesday mornings at 8:30, and I look forward to seeing many happy faces!

- I am the music teacher at John Stanford International School, and I am honored to be here! I know it will be a wonderful year in music. I believe each child has a talent for music in their own special way, and it is my job to help them discover their musical gift. In order to do this, the students will be taking part in a variety of music activities. These are designed to help each child develop musical skills and to know and appreciate many different types of music. Music from around the world is incorporated into every lesson. If you or your child has a song, instrument, dance, or other musical experience for the class, please come in and share with us! The musical activities we will be focusing on include: singing, playing instruments, creating music, listening to music, and moving to music. All of these activities are part of the National Standards for Music Education and are written into our school district's music curriculum. If you are interested in learning more about what your child is doing in music, I invite you to stop by the music room and join in.
